iPhone 4s – Absinthe Jailbreak Problems

Ok, So since the release of the Absinthe Jailbreak tool for the Apple Mac, I thought I would give it a shot and see if it really was as simple as they said it was.

At first glance, it was the fastest Jailbreak I have ever seen. However, after a couple of days use, it was apparent it does do more harm than good.

I do a lot of driving during the week, so I rely on my iPhone to keep me entertained listening to my playlists. I got in the car stuck on my favourite playlist and waited for it to start. After 30 seconds of silence, I was trying to figure out what was wrong with the phone/car. I unplugged the phone and tried to play the playlist on it’s own and it wouldn’t play, it would flash the album art up on screen and then take me back to the track listings in the playlist. I repeated the step and it eventually started playing a song, however, it wasn’t the song that I had asked it to play…. I plugged it back into the car and started listening to the music. I tried to change track and it would skip a whole bunch of songs that it would normally have played.. GREAT! As there wasn’t much that I could do while driving I put up with the random tracks. Finally when it changed tracks it suddenly stopped playing, and played a strange noise and stuck on 2:47 seconds on the display in the car.

I am not sure if this is 100% to do with the Absinthe Jailbreak, however I am going to do a iPhone restore to see if this brings it all back.

iPhone users be weary! Make sure you do a backup of your iPhone BEFORE doing the jailbreak..

Let me know if you experience the same issue with your Apple iPhone 4s

Thanks,
Chris :)

Planet Eclipse – Technicians Course (14th January 2012)

This weekend, I travelled up to Manchester to take part in a technicians course run by the manufacturer of the EGO 11 / Etek 3 and GEO 2/2.1 paintball markers. Planet Eclipse run these sessions for a select few players who would like to learn how to maintain and troubleshoot their own markers.

After arriving on site at Planet Eclipse, myself and my team mate were greeted by Rob the Planet Eclipse technician. Rob can be found at most big paintball games and events. In my experience, before having taken this course, I would always go and find Rob in the Planet Eclipse tech support tent to answer any of my questions or to show me what I was doing wrong with my paintball marker. Top bloke! :)

After the remaining paintball players who were taking part in the course had turned up, the course started. It was an in depth course lasting approximately 6 hours. At the end of the course, you are given an exam to complete. If you are able to complete the exam and achieve a pass score. You are awarded with a Planet Eclipse certification for the technicians course and you are also presented with a Planet Eclipse badge that only technicians can earn once they have passed.

I won’t bore you all with the fine details of how to carry out the maintenance, but I would highly recommend the course to anybody wanting to service or troubleshoot their own paintball markers!

Total cost of the course – £30! (Included in this price is a Planet Eclipse techflex mat for disassembling your marker, a complete allen key tool kit, a put of Planet Eclipse oil, Planet Eclipse grease and a complete folder, containing all the diagrams of the markers, firing and operations diagrams and a note pad.. Not bad eh!?)

If you are tempted by this course, keep an eye out on the Planet Eclipse website where you will be able to book in.

See you on the field!

No longer able to send SMS via my Apple Mac!

Ok so after having a break from the Macs, I decided to buy myself a new mac to replace my ancient PC.

After spending a couple of months using my new MacBook Air, I have noticed that you can no longer send SMS/TXT messages from your blueooth connected mobile phone :(

I remember when you could pair up your mobile phone (no matter who it was manufactured by) and any SMS or TXT messages received on your phone would be displayed on screen on my Mac, which you could then quickly reply to via the Mac.

Apple why have you removed this feature and when will you be putting it back?!

Happy New Year!

Chris :)

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! It’s Christmas Eve and the old Christmas themed films are popping onto the TV, I have spent most of my day watching films like The Santa Claus 1 and 2! Great films starring Tim Allen.

Create your own iOS App – Thanks to Stanford University

If like me, you have wanted to join the multitude of developers out there and create your own iOS App, you will agree with me that there are bundles of tutorials out there. However trying to find a good tutorial is difficult.

Thanks to Standford University’s Paul Hegarty, you can now subscribe to one of this university modules that takes you through the basics of creating your very own iOS app. Ok so the tutorial is not the most exciting iOS app in the world, but this is a great foundation to work with.

Where can I find this, I hear you ask. Well these lectures and videos have been uploaded to iTunes U! See the link below to subscribe for FREE!

If you have found a good iOS development tutorial, feel free to share them in the comments section below.

Happy Coding! ;)

New Years Eve, 2011 – What to do?

Over the past several years, it has always been an army styled mission to try and organise something for the infamous New Year celebrations.

It has come to that time of year again where the plans for New Years have been left to the last minute. Is it because year after year, you spend the whole of the month trying to plan something with your mates, to find that on the night, it is exactly the same as every other night but with a considerable amount of money missing from your wallet due to the mammouth entrance fee you had to pay to get in to the pub/bar/club that you paid £0 to get into the week previous.. Not forgetting the increased drink prices and the really long wait to get to the bar for a drink (Ok, so this is coming across a bit negative.. it is not meant to appear that way.. honest!).

What I am asking you is.. Have you ever had a good New Years celebration? What did you do and what was the best part of your evening?

How will you be celebrating the coming of 2012?

Happy New Year!

How will you be welcoming the new year?

Happy Christmas!
Chris
